This weekend I catched this magnum opus and a creation of Shyam Benegal.
It was a late night show of 11PM and we reached helathy 20 min. late directly from the office.
I hate to miss the beginnings and trailors of the forthcoming movies.... but it happened [:(]
So, by the time we are guided to our seats, Netaji was already escaped from his house in Kolkata and reached Peshawar en route to their journey to get into Russia.
The film is a very long (more than 3 and half hours).. and most of all, it looks like a documentary than a film. Netaji's journey and his will to get a force for freedom fight has been covered in atmost details. His controversial marriage to Emillie, his German Secretary is shown in the movie ( I came to know about this in the movie itself )... he also had a daughter from her.
His journey to Afganistan to Germany to Japan is shown extensively with details. Some of the scenes of the movie are just wonderful. In the second half, the war scenes are all mixed and one couldn't get an idea of whts happening in which front. Its all confusing. His batallions were named like Gandhi Batallion, Nehuru Batallion, Rani Laxmibai batallion and like tht. He was a true patriot who wanted the freedom of his nation at any cost and by any means. Cudos to the superhero who just ran out of luck when Japan surrendered in the second world war and his INA (Indian National Army) din't have any support to carry on the fights against British. but still he managed to let the world recognise India as a one nation irrespective of so many religions/languages practised in India. Last but not least, the film din't answer whether Bose actually died during his airplane crash. So, his fans can still expect his return to the independent and free India !!
Caste : Sachin Khedekar is the perfect image of the Bose, he plays the role to his full capacity and he gives full justice to the role. Rajit Kapoor aka Byomkesh Bakshi stands out due to his sheer enthusiasm and patriotism. He wants his motherland to be free and that too very soon, always ready for a fight. Rajpaal Yadav, Kulbhooshan Kharbanda, Pankaj kapoor, Divya dutaa , and Raajeshwari ... all played theor roles to their full potential. The Hitler shown was more like a comedian than a real Hitler, din't know but everybody was laughing at the so thin Hitler ;)
Director, Shyam Benegal shot the movie in all the real locations, has done his research well and comes out with a good product. The movie is mainly for history lovers and it sure is must watch for Bose fans.
Music... AR Rehmaan, the master of music is yet again delivered a music that just keep haunting even after you leave the movie hall. The "Ekla chalo re" ... "Chalo Dilli..." and "Azaaaaaaadi" are just superb. The "Azaaaaadi ..." song shown in the end of the movie with Bose's all original clipping, it stopped all the public moving out of the movie hall to watch that. a gr8 music again !!
Here u listen the Songs...
Still from the Movie...
P.S. : Sorry for any typos... as I completed this in a hurry :)
